Berlin-based art collective Raubdruckerin has been using manhole covers, vents and utility grates as ‘stamps’ for tees and bags; applying water-based, eco-friendly ink with a roller onto the cast iron covers.

On their website, the group explain, “these neglected city art[works] surprise us in their diversity, creativity of design and the careful integration into their surroundings”.

While they started in Berlin, they have expanded to other cities including Amsterdam, Paris and Lisbon. To see the finished designs and learn more, visit their official website.

Street artist Blu completed this giant, 7-story mural last October at the Casa Dei Pazzi in Rome, Italy. Instead of using a lift, the artist opted to rappel from the roof with just a rope and a few buckets of gear.

You can see some progress shots below along with a few close-ups of the artwork. To see the latest projects from Blu, check out his official website.

High Schools Let Their Seniors Paint Their Parking Spots (23)

At select high schools across the US it has become an annual tradition to let the seniors paint their own parking spots. At some schools, painting your parking spot has become an all-day social event where friends and family all get together to help paint.

In the photos below we see the creative results from Keller High School in Texas, Chelsea High School in Alabama and West Orange High School in Florida. What a fun and creative way to start your final year of high school!

Street artist WD (aka ‘Wild Drawing’) recently completed this incredible owl mural in Athens, Greece for the Petit Paris d’ Athènes (Little Paris of Athens) art festival which took place from October 9-16, 2016.

The artwork is titled “Knowledge speaks – Wisdom listens”. In Greek culture, the Owl symbolizes wisdom. It’s also the symbol for the goddess Athena, after which the city is named. Artist WD adds:

The owl as bird is famous for its exceptionally good far vision, particularly in low light. Nowadays Greece is experiencing a really dark phase and I think it’s time for us here and around the globe, to recall this creature’s wisdom.

Below you can see a Google street view of what the drab wall looked like before the art transformation. To see more amazing street art by WD, check out the links below.

Guido Van Helten is an artist from Brisbane, Australia that has gained worldwide recognition for his incredible murals that span entire buildings and structures.

Cities and building owners around the world commission the artist for his larger-than-life portraits of people. In a documentary with Selina Miles, Van Helten adds:

“Before I create a work I really want to learn about the people who live there. I want to really try and develop a work that speaks to them”

Van Helten’s preferred meduim is aerosol and while many people may categorize his work as ‘street art’, Guido prefers to think of himself as a muralist. Below you will find a gallery of Van Helten’s incredible artwork. For more, check him out at the links below.

To celebrate the official legalization of marijuana in California, artist Zach Fernandez—who goes by the moniker Jesushands—made some temporary modifications to the iconic Hollywood sign in Los Angeles.

In the close-up below, you can see how relatively easy it was to change the O’s to E’s. Fernandez pulled off the stunt over New Year’s weekend. It has since been taken down and he will be facing misdemeanour charges.

This isn’t the first time the sign has been ‘modified’. Betsy Isroelit with the Hollywood Sign Trust told CNN that the last time the sign was vandalized to read “Hollyweed” was in 1976.

1st piece of 2017 – because of the previous story. I had only 6 hours to paint this one mostly done with a astro cap. in my opinion I would need one more day to finish it the way I like. At least the 🚔 let me finish it! Hope you guys enjoy it.”

banksy hotel west bank palestine Banksy Opens Art Hotel with Worlds Worst View

After 14 months of secrecy and planning, Banksy’s Walled Off Hotel will begin taking reservations on March 11, 2017. The hotel (a satirized version of New York’s upscale Waldorf) is located in Bethlehem, a Palestinian town in West Bank, and is within arm’s distance of the 708 km (440 mile) barrier that separates Israel and Palestine.

The 10-room hotel boasts 25 minutes of direct sunlight a day and offers the ‘world’s worst view’ says hotel operator Wisam Salsaa.

“Walls are hot right now, but I was into them long before Trump made it cool” – Banksy

Quips aside, the Walled Off Hotel is a legitimate lodging accepting reservations, and featuring a museum, gallery and live stream performances from musicians such as: Elton John, Fatboy Slim, Hans Zimmer, Massive Attack, Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross.

Banksy’s latest project stands as a hotel, museum, gallery and protest all in one. Below you will find out more about the hotel along with photos of the interior. For booking inquiries visit Banksy.co.uk

The Piano Bar

Britain got its hands on Palestine in 1917 and the piano bar is themed as a colonial outpost from those heady days. It is equipped with languid ceiling fans, leather bound couches and an air of undeserved authority. Guests can peruse a collection of Banksy artworks that include vandalised oil paintings and statues choking on tear gas fumes. Warm scones and freshly brewed tea are served daily on fine bone china

This home-made attraction is dedicated solely to the biography of the wall. It contains state-of-the-art audio visual presentations and a very old tree. Other highlights includes an animated history of the region, military pornography and original beach sculpture from Gaza. The cinema plays excerpts from the mighty Oscar nominated ‘Five Broken Cameras’ – and one of those very same bullet-damaged cameras is on display.

Curated in association with Dr Gavin Grindon from Essex University the museum contains almost fully fact-checked material and will be an ongoing repository for local stories, artefacts and testimonies.

Martin Whatson (b. 1984) is a Norwegian born and based stencil artist. While studying Art and Graphic design at Westerdals School of Communication in Oslo, he discovered stencils and the urban art scene. He had been interested in graffiti for years following the development within street art closely; and in 2004 he started his own artistic production.

On his about page, Whatson adds:

Martin has a continuous urge to search for beauty in what is commonly dismissed as ugly, out of style or simply left behind. He looks for inspirations in people, city landscapes, old buildings, graffiti, posters and decaying walls. This interest for decay has helped develop his style, motives and composition and he enjoys creating either unity or conflict between materials, backgrounds, motives and human intervention.

His artistic expression started more political, but has developed into a more subtle expression blending graffiti, stencil art and decay together. Inspired by artist like Jose Parlá and Cy Twombly. His abstract graffiti and stencils are a mix of urban scenes showing the development of a walls lifetime. He use grey tones as a basis but add’s vibrant colours to break the monochrome concrete expression and bring a splash of life to his motives. [source]

This past weekend a new artwork by Banksy appeared on the side of the Castle Amusements Building in Dover, England, depicting a metalworker chipping away at one of the stars on the EU Flag.

The building is located near the ferry terminal that connects the UK with mainland Europe.
