Imgur user Paul De Graaf recently shared an amazing photo album that shows the layers of paint that have formed on a famous Dutch graffiti wall over the last 30 years.

According to De Graaf, this is “Doornroosje”. It’s a graffiti ‘Hall of Fame’ in the city of Nijmegen, the Netherlands. What started as a 70s hippie cult place, became a center for music and art in the early 80s. It was even one of the first places where it was legal to smoke cannabis. The building is surrounded by walls that are all spray painted from top to bottom.

A Team of Florists Have Been Leaving Giant Bouquets Around New York and It’s Amazing

Over the last few months, floral designer Lewis Miller and his team have been ‘flower-bombing’ New York City, arranging incredible giant bouquets in the most unexpected places.

The team have been using empty trash receptacles for what they call ‘flower flashes’, spreading whimsy and delight in the process. How could you pass one of these amazing bouquets and not be impressed? The size alone is enough to give pause.

In an interview with Vogue, Miller adds:

“I am in the business of fantasy and flowers, and it’s my job to transform key moments in my clients’ lives into joyful, everlasting memories. I wanted to recreate a similar feeling for the everyday city-dwellers and tourists of New York City.”

Miller says they always recycle flowers from events whenever possible and plan to continue ‘flower flashing’ across New York (and beyond) and going even ‘bigger’. Lastly, Miller adds that the ‘LMDxNYC’ they tag at every location is chalk spray paint and washes away in the rain.

Check out the most recent flower flashes below and follow Lewis Miller Design on Instagram for updates.

Street artist E.LEE recently completed this awesome artwork in his hometown of Chicago at the Soho House in West Loop. In an interview with StreetArtNews.net Lee adds:

“It was a challenge creating a story-line using two corners with so much distance between them. But I was really happy to do this Wile E Coyote piece. The consummate failure is my favorite character of all time. I love him for knowing what he wants and going after it; for being creative in the pursuit; and for always getting up after he falls and trying again.”

This Street Artist is Painting Fake Shadows and Making People Do Double Takes

If you’re staring at your phone you’ll probably miss them. I mean shadows are everywhere, do you really pay that much attention to them? Artist Damon Belanger was recently commissioned by the business owners of downtown Redwood City, California to inject a little life into the downtown core.

So Belanger, a graphic artist living and working in the San Francisco Bay area, painted 23 shadow artworks all around downtown. There’s no rhyme or reason for their locations, no explanation for who or what the characters are. But if you happen to notice them, you’ll surely do a double take and maybe scratch your head when you realize something isn’t right.

The project was recently selected as a ‘Merit Winner’ at the HOW International Design Awards ‘Signage & Environmental Graphics’ category. If you find yourself in Redwood City, California any time soon, try to find all 23 of them!

Minnesota-based installation artist Eric Rieger aka HOT TEA, uses yarn in a variety of creative and colorful ways. In an ongoing series of street artworks, Rieger uses yarn on chain link fences to create amazing 3D letters of his moniker. As for why he calls himself HOT TEA, Rieger explains:

“The phrase “HOT TEA” was chosen to highlight the relationship between the two words. We so often over look the meaning behind what we say and how special some of these words and phrases really are. These two words compliment each other both physically and grammatically. Without one or the other you wouldn’t have a phrase that evokes a sense of comfort, warmth and relaxation. In a physical sense without hot water all you have is tea, and without tea all you have is water, but when both put together you have “HOT TEA”. Hot tea is greater than the sum of its parts.

This idea was the basis for the HOT TEA project. There will always be a relationship between things and that interconnection we have with everything around us is the backbone for how HOT TEA navigates. The project is a comment on all relationships good and bad and the things that lie between them. Like the phrase itself Hot and Tea are two totally different words brought together to represent something new, which reflect on the media and surfaces that the project makes use of.”

Ísafjörður, a small fishing town in Iceland, has become the latest city to test out an eye-catching, 3D crosswalk to see if it will help slow down passing motorists.

According to Colossal, the piece was created last month as part of a collaboration between street painting firm Vegi GÍH and the city’s environmental commissioner Ralf Trylla.

Below you will find additional photos of the 3D crosswalk which is fun and playful for pedestrians and hopefully effective at slowing down motorists.

You will also find photos from cities around the world that are also experimenting with 3D crosswalks.

Artwork by CitéCréation

At 40 Boulevard des Canuts in Lyon, France you will find this incredible trompe-l’œil mural by the French artist collective, CitéCréation.

First completed in 1987, the monumental work has been updated several times since. However, to truly appreciate the impact and difference the mural has made you must see what the wall looked like before the artists gave it, its dramatic face lift.

Mural Goes Up and Down with Tide, Will Eventually Fade to Nothing

To find the highest tides on Earth you need to travel to the Bay of Fundy off the east coast of Canada. At some times of the year the difference between high and low tide in the Bay is 16.3 meters (53.4 ft)!

Artist Sean Yoro aka Hula (featured previously) was recently commissioned by the Saint John, New Brunswick tourism board to paint one of his popular paddleboard murals.

Check out the timelapse of the challenging artwork below:

SEAN YORO aka HULA
Website | Facebook | Instagram | Prints

The final mural measures 30′ x 45′ and took nine days to complete. Each day, Yoro had to deal with a tide that rose and fell by 28 feet. A big challenge was getting the paint to stick to the wall in wet and rainy conditions.

Yoro only uses eco-friendly paint that will eventually wash away. Finding the right eco-friendly combination of paints and sealers was tricky as the majority of his canvas was underwater for most of the time.

Below you will find progress pictures of the amazing mural being painted, along with an embedded video at the bottom that includes Yoro reflecting on the creation of the artwork.

New works by Banksy have started to appear around New York including this giant mural the artist did in collaboration with graffiti writer Borf.

The mural shows Turkish artist Zehra Dogan, who a year ago was sentenced to jail for nearly three years by the Turkish courts for a watercolour painting she did based on a photograph she saw in a newspaper.

The giant mural can be seen at the corner of Houston and Bowery in Manhattan with the tally marks symbolically representing the number of days Dogan has already been imprisoned.

According to Colossal, the aspect that the Mardin 2nd High Criminal Court deemed a crime are the Turkish flags that Dogan included, draped over the facades of some of the standing buildings, elements that also appear in the original photo.

You can see the original Instagram posts embedded below where Banksy encourages his followers to repost the painting and tag the Turkish President, Recep Erdogan.

Banksy has just blitzed Paris with a series of new, politically charged works that highlight current issues in France such as migration and the hijab ban along with his usual criticisms of commercialism and income inequality.

He also acknowledged the 50 year anniversary since the ‘May 68‘ uprising in France which he claims was the birthplace of modern stencil art.

The recent works mark the first time the street artist has created murals in Paris and the locations of some of the pieces are symbolic as well. According to The Local:

– One work was placed on the back of a road sign outside the Pompidou centre modern art gallery, which houses Europe’s biggest collection of contemporary art

– Banksy sprayed a rat wearing a Minnie Mouse bow (Disneyland is largest employer in Paris) under the caption “May 1968” near Sorbonne university, one of the centres of the uprising

– A mural of a refugee child covering up a swastika sprayed over the patch of pavement on which she was sleeping was placed next to a former refugee centre closed down in March by the French government

– Banksy also created an image of girl huddled in mourning in a fire exit next to the Bataclan concert hall, where 90 people were massacred by jihadist gunmen in November 2015
